By Rachel Esterline
My journey as an indie author began when I sat in front of an agent at an event and pitched my debut novel, Reaper & The Lioness. She listened thoughtfully as I shared the synopsis of my book and then asked a question that caught me off guard: “Is motorcycle club romance a genre?”
The fact that this agent with over 20 years experience was unaware of my chosen niche told me that signing an agent and selling my book to a publisher would likely be a long road—and I’ve never been known for my patience.
I thanked her for her time and decided to move forward with going the indie route—hiring an editor and graphic designer, handling my own marketing, figuring our distribution, and booking my own events.
Over the past year, I’ve read 45 motorcycle club romance novels—most of which were written by indie authors. When my first book, Reaper & The Lioness, was released, several readers told me that my book was the first they’d read in the genre. And nearly every one of them said they were hooked!
In November, I started to consider how to help indie authors like myself reach more readers. On a whim, I purchased the domain for MCromancebookclub.com and sat on it until the final days of the year.
There are so many talented indie authors out there and readers who love to read about the gritty worlds of motorcycle clubs, protective alpha males, and bad ass FMCs are craving more. This book club is for the readers and authors who are feral for MC romance!
I won’t lie—I’m building this plane as I fly it. I’m the pilot and the stewardess handing you pretzels. But, we all love a wild ride, right?
